small tiling blog backgrounds June 21st, 2011
These are great for blog backgrounds. Some themes make it easy for you to change. With the less helpful ones, if you’re hosting them on your own ISP (not on wordpress.com), it’s fairly simple.
How to Change Your Blog’s Background: (wordpress blog)
In dashboard mode, click on “Appearance”, then “Editor”. Open the “style.css” file. Find a line of code that looks like this:
background:url(img/logo.jpg);}
Using your FTP client, locate your WordPress files. Open the “wp-content” folder; open the “themes” folder; open the “img” folder. Find the file called “logo.jpg” or whatever the author of the theme called the background image. Download it to your computer; open it in an image editing program. Find the image you want to replace it with; then, either resize it to the same dimensions as the wordpress image or copy your image & paste it into the wordpress one, making sure you layer it over the wordpress image.
Then, save it, making sure you don’t change the file name. (For example, Photoshop will tell you a file with that name already exists and asks if you want to replace it; you choose “yes”.) Now, going back to your FTP program, upload the image to the “img” folder. Look at your blog, refresh the page if you already have it open, and see how came out. You may have to play with the pattern size (re-uploading in a few times–which I’ve done) if you’re trying to get an offset tiled pattern.
If your blog is wordpress.com or some other site, check their help center or forums to find out how to do this.
